Fill in the Blank Friday

1.   My most prized possession is probably my camera gear. It enables me to make a living while being creative. Its an amazing tool :) Also, my iPhone is pretty much incredible. I love having EVERYTHING with me whenever I need it. Some of those apps are just so handy to have.

2.  If I could be one age for the rest of my life, I would want to be 26. I don’t mind where I’m at now, but 26 just sounds better! 26 is a good age, its still in the mid-twenties category. Honestly though, not much has changed between 26 and 29 for me besides the number change!

3.  The best way to spend a weekend is a Friday night date night {out or in, I’m thinking a movie and dinner}, Saturday morning breakfast with Murl, a farmer’s market and a day trip to anywhere — somewhere new or an old favorite. And then spend Sunday prepping for the week to come. Making a menu, working out our schedules, etc. If only this happened with any sort of frequency :)

4.  My outlook on life is sunny. Life is short, why have a bad attitude? Of course we all have our Grumposaurus Rex moments {days?} but seriously — life is what you make of it, might as well enjoy it!

5.  If you want to annoy me, just put an apostrophe in my last name. Seriously…I get pretty annoyed when I see “Necker’s” — I’m also annoyed by spelling errors in general and want to whip out a red pen and fix them when I see them out in public. Especially restaurant menus. I can pick out misspellings quicker than my lunch sometimes. I think this is one of my more annoying ‘talents’ ;)

6.  I am completely defenseless when it comes to appetizers. I LOVE munching on apps at parties. Yummy cheeses, breads, olives, fruit…I’m usually full by the time the main course is served!

7. When dressing for the day one should check the weather, I think its important to dress weather appropriate. :)
To play along each week check out The Little Things We Do… and if you do, comment here so I can check out your responses!

Vintage Inspired Bridal Portrait Session | Erie PA

March 24, 2011 by Heather · Leave a Comment

A few months ago I came across a fun portrait idea and put the word out that I was looking to photograph a woman in her mother’s wedding gown. Honestly, how fun is that? You get to honor your mom by wearing her gown for some portraits and still wear your own for your wedding — its the best of both worlds and its neat to see similarities between mother and daughter.

This is Katie. She likes the idea as much as I do.

Katie is wearing her mother’s wedding dress from the 1970s. Her mom sewed this dress herself, so its a total one of a kind, I love that! I also love that Katie wore this vintage inspired headpiece and silver ballet flats. It updates the look without taking away from the dress.

It was so hard for me to change this next one into black and white, but I just adore all the textures from this building and the ivy and I feel the black and white really brings that out.

This one just may be my favorite!

The only thing different I’d like to do next time is take inspiration from a portrait of the bride’s mother from her wedding and try to recreate that portrait for a fun side by side comparison of mother and daughter!

Would you like to have a portrait session like this? Contact us for details!

Fill in the Blank Friday

March 18, 2011 by Heather · 2 Comments

So I recently stumbled upon this fun weekly challenge via one of our 2010 brides, Anna. I thought it seemed like fun, and it would help you all get to know me better! So I’m going to attempt to keep up with this weekly post…at least until wedding season is in high gear…then I may run out of time to do these!

1.   The best deal I’ve ever gotten is probably this really cute pair of capri jeans from Express. They were selling for $90 and I went back and forth whether I should spend that much on a pair of capris…decided I’d go for it since they fit so well and when they got rung up they were on sale for $15!! Score :)

2.  If I were hosting a dinner party and could invite people from my fantasy guest list it would include Martha Stewart {I’d have her come over early to help with dinner and making cute place cards and dressing up the table ;) }, Donald Trump {imagine picking HIS brain! I love him} although I don’t think he likes Martha anymore, Jim Carrey would be fun to have since he’s so entertaining and lets round it out with a musician…how about Zac Brown — I’m not hugely into country music but I love him and he seems like a cool dude to hang with. Honestly, Murl and I *love* hosting dinner parties, and I’m pretty happy with having dinner with our friends. I don’t feel a strong desire to hang with celebrities so this was a hard question!
3.  Something that inspires me is self confident, fun & unique people who are fashionable {I use this term loosely, I appreciate all facets of personal fashion!}. Sometimes I see people and just feel this absolute draw to photograph them! I’m also inspired by business gurus like the Donald and Seth Godin. I’m always inspired by big thinkers and people who DO, not just think and don’t act.
4.  If I could only choose to eat one flavor of food for the rest of eternity (sweet, salty, spicy, bitter….) I would have to go with buttery. {does that count?} I love everything from my mashed potatoes to my wine buttery. :)
5.  I dream about traveling. Frequently. All over the world. I also dream of moving to Vermont — we love it there so much!

6.  My weekend will be spent playing volleyball, shooting an engagement session and having Sunday Funday with Murl — a trip to Southern Tier Brewery for a beer release, followed by a couple of wine tastings and chicken and biscuits for dinner! Pretty perfect weekend!

7. If I could only  watch one movie or TV show for the rest of my life, it would be House or How I Met Your Mother, or even Grey’s Anatomy, all good shows…although if I really only got to watch one show for life, I’d probably choose the Today Show since its different every day!
And I’ll end this on a teaser shot from a family session this week — look for a couple of blog posts next week from recent portrait sessions!
Have a great weekend! | Heather

MARRIED {Aaron+Michelle} | North East Wedding Photographer

March 14, 2011 by Heather · 3 Comments

We kicked off the 2011 wedding season on Saturday right here in North East. We started out at Vineyard Bed and Breakfast where the bride and her bridesmaids were getting ready and then headed to the Immanuel United Methodist Church. I was so glad that Michelle was getting ready somewhere prettier than the church basement — it helped to have nice available light {not that awful fluorescent lighting} and good looking furniture! They had some great details and I loved their wine themed wedding reception — which had an awesome cheese, crackers, bread and oil appetizer table! Anyway, here are some images from their wedding:

I’m back! | Erie & Jamestown Photographer

March 10, 2011 by Heather · 1 Comment

I’ve recently realized I’ve been on a serious blog hiatus. I think at the end of every year, once wedding season is over and the Christmas rush has passed, most photographers tend to hibernate a bit, catch our collective breath and come back refreshed. I’d say that’s exactly what I’ve done. I’ve been keeping busy with photo shoots and moving the studio out of our downtown location. If you like us on Facebook you will have seen some of the sessions that have taken place. Sadly its too easy to update the Facebook page and much harder to blog! I’m hoping to get back on track though :)

Part of this post’s job is to inform those of you who are not aware that we have closed the doors at the studio location on 89 in North East. My love for lifestyle and on location portraiture just didn’t jive with having a studio space. {I’ve never been a huge fan of fake backgrounds and props} I’m absolutely going to miss my gallery room and having that space to meet with clients in, but I’m really excited to be working from home and trying something new! Nothing has changed in regards to contacting us, you can still reach us by the same email, phone number or on Facebook.

It may be March but wedding season is kicking off for us here in Erie this weekend! We’re excited to start shooting weddings again and can’t wait to blog this weekends wedding on Monday! So be sure to come back to see it. Also here is a sneak peek at what’s upcoming on the blog in the next few weeks:

See you all back here real soon! xoxo

Beautiful Baby Contest | Erie Children Photography

I’m not sure if you have seen the 2011 Beautiful Baby Calendar that the North East News Journal put together and mailed out recently, but in case you haven’t seen it – I wanted to share with you the winning images. I was honored to be asked to photograph the winners of their 2010 Beautiful Baby Contest! I had a lot of fun photographing all 13 of these adorable kiddos :)   And major bonus — local charities benefited! {Community Nursing Services of North East, North East Fire Department Scuba & Rescue Team, MOPS of North East, Loving Arms at Brevillier Village}

Looking forward to this coming year’s adventure already! Watch the paper to find out how your child could be featured in the 2012 calendar!

Here are the beautiful winners — Enjoy!
